AI Is Changing Cybersecurity — For Both Attackers and Defenders
Blog · 28 September 2026
Artificial intelligence is changing cybersecurity on both sides. Cybersecurity firms report that AI can help malicious actors operate faster and automate parts of attacks, while the same technology is increasingly being used by defenders to identify vulnerabilities, analyze threats and respond more quickly.
A recent example comes from Palo Alto Networks, which launched an AI-powered cybersecurity service designed to continuously assess applications, APIs, cloud infrastructure and other enterprise systems for potential vulnerabilities. Instead of relying only on periodic security assessments, the approach uses AI to help organizations continuously identify and prioritize weaknesses as their technology changes. Reuters
For businesses, the important shift is speed. As digital infrastructure becomes more connected and threats become faster, security teams increasingly need tools that can analyze large amounts of information and surface potential problems quickly. AI can support that process, but human expertise remains important for deciding what represents a genuine risk and what action should follow.
The result is a cybersecurity environment where AI is becoming both a new source of risk and an increasingly important part of the defense. For businesses adopting more cloud services, connected systems and AI itself, cybersecurity can no longer be treated as something added after the technology is built — it needs to develop alongside it.
