Built Locally, Assembled to Last: Inside Hapo Electronics

Blog · 22 September 2026

Of all nine companies in Hapo Group, Hapo Electronics is probably the one doing the most literally physical work: manufacturing and assembly of LED displays and electronic components, here in South Africa.

That's a meaningfully different business than most of the rest of the group. Hapo Cloud, Hapo Intelligence and Hapo Media deal primarily in software, data and screens-as-a-service; Hapo Electronics deals in the actual screens — the panels, the components, the physical build quality that everything else in the group's media and advertising businesses depends on. When a recent Insights post covered LED prices falling more than 60% and digital signage becoming affordable to a much wider range of businesses, Hapo Electronics is the part of the group positioned to build into exactly that shift, locally.

Local manufacturing in electronics is not the easy path. It would almost always be cheaper, on paper, to import finished displays rather than manufacture and assemble them domestically. But the calculus changes when you account for what local manufacturing actually protects against: currency volatility on landed-cost imports, shipping delays and global supply chain disruption, and the lead times that come with ordering from overseas rather than a local production line that can turn around a changed order. It also does something imports can't: creates skilled local jobs and keeps technical manufacturing capability inside the country.

That's consistent with how Hapo Group describes its own mission — innovating for a smarter, more sustainable tomorrow, with local manufacturing and job creation as an explicit part of the group's positioning, not an afterthought. Hapo Electronics is where that positioning becomes something you can actually put your hands on.

For Hapo Media's advertising screens, XR Africa's virtual production volumes, and any client buying a large-format LED display, Hapo Electronics is the manufacturing backbone underneath.
